Obituary for Doris Leola Wilkins (Williams)

Doris Leola Wilkins 92, of Mantua passed away Saturday, June 15, 2019. She enjoyed her family, worshiping at her church and shopping in her younger years. She had an interesting life being raised by her paternal grandmother from three years old. For a period of time they moved to a rural area near Asheboro, N.C. to care for her aged great grandfather. They had no electricity she had to do her homework by an oil lamp and her grandmother would shoot an animal in the woods occasionally for dinner. She met John during the war while he was training to be a para trooper near her small town when she was seventeen, they knew each other three weeks and ran off to S.C. to get married. A marriage that lasted till his death fifty-seven years later. She was an amazing mom who gave unselfishly, caring for her family, especially our baby sister whose birth defect required total care for many years.

Doris was predeceased by her beloved husband John Wilkins; survived by her children, Barbara Driscoll, Debbie McWilliams and her husband Jim, John Wilkins, Jr. and his wife Kathy; 8 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and 2 great great grandchildren. Doris was also predeceased by her daughter, Merri Christina Wilkins; son-in-law, Ed Driscoll; beloved great grandson, Jeffrey Ney; and sisters, Irene Ford and Margie Williams.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, June 19th at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 212 N. Main Street Glassboro, New Jersey 08028, with burial to follow at North Cedar Hill Cemetery in Philadelphia, PA.
